Speaking on Takumi’s lean journey under the Enterprise Ireland supported LeanPlus initiative Donal stated that ”Lean is now embedded into our organisation. We are already benefiting from significant savings from its incorporation, all thanks to being introduced to the concept by Enterprise Ireland and Almir Business Ltd. It’s an imperative part of our business now.” Mr Galligan shared how their Lean Plus programme brought improved quality, planning, control, operational savings and new customers with enhanced capability and capacity.

This annual Shannon Chamber and Zimmer event is always well attended and this year was no exception. Adrian Furey, Managing Director of Zimmer outlined what a paperless shopfloor entails and their plans to introduce an electronic Device History Record system. “We are now introducing an electronic DHR system, which will be fully in place by the end of 2014. This will almost totally eliminate paper based records, our operations will be aligned to customer service requirements and react real-time to changes. Moving to a paperless environment will improve our quality compliance and data access; we will have better information, and will be able to make better decisions. It’s all part of being Lean,” added Mr Furey.
